What are the general requirements?
You must be a certified diver over 16 years of age and you need to meet the medical requirements on the medical questionnaire. If you answer ‘YES’ to any of the questions on the medical form, you will require a doctors permission to dive. If all of your answers are ‘NO’, please just come along – you will fill out a form when you get to the aquarium on the day of your dive.
Is it safe?
Our tank is a safe environment to dive in and our divers are fully qualified PADI dive professionals.
Can I feed the sharks?
No, members of the public cannot feed our sharks. Our sharks are fed by our divers on Saturdays and Wednesdays.
Can I fly after I dive?
PADI recommends that you wait 12 hours after your dive before you fly.
How do I get there?
Deep Sea World is located 20 minutes from Edinburgh over the Forth Road Bridge just off Junction 1 of the M90. There is free on-site parking. By public transport, there are regular train services from Edinburgh Waverley and Haymarket stations to North Queensferry on the Fife Circle Line. Our location is clearly signposted and just a short walk from North Queensferry station.
Am I in a cage?
No, you are not in a cage. You are in amongst the fish and sharks accompanied by our dive instructors.
When can I dive?
To arrange to book onto a Shark Awareness Course, call us on 01383 411880 to check availability and dates.
How long does the course last?
The Shark Awareness Course is an all day course which starts at 10am and finishes at approximately 6pm. Classroom sessions, lunch and the dive in our main tank are included in the cost.
Can I take a camera into the tank?
Cameras can be taken into the tank if pre-arranged with our dive instructor. There is a cost of £25 to use underwater cameras in the tank.
Can my friends watch me dive?
Yes, dive spectators are more than welcome, and receive a discounted entry rate to the aquarium. The number of spectators needs to be confirmed in advance.
Can I use my own equipment?
Yes, you may use your own equipment, however equipment must be rinsed before you dive and also must be checked by our dive instructors. Deep Sea World provides cylinders and weights. Please note: Rebreathers are NOT permitted.
Can I hire equipment?
Yes, you may hire our equipment for a fee. Our hire equipment is limited and is available on a ‘first come, first served’ basis; it is best if you can bring your own.
Does the dive count as a logged dive?
Yes, please bring your log book with you and we will stamp it for you on completion of the dive.
How many will be on the course?
We can cater for up to 8 people on each shark awareness course.
The Shark Awareness Course is open to divers with a minimum qualification of PADI Open Water or equivalent. Divers must have logged a dive within the six months prior to their dive date.
