Our qualified PADI diving instructors will teach you about SCUBA techniques and then you will get to dive in our main 4.5 million litre tank with real Sand Tiger Sharks (No need for mum to worry; there will be a secure railing between you and the sharks). The Junior Shark Encounters are based around the PADI Bubblemaker program. The session will last around 2 hours with our shark dive team who will take you through the skills you need to get you started in diving.

JUNIOR SHARK ENCOUNTER REVIEWS:
What are the general requirements?
You need to be between 8 – 15 years of age and you need to meet the medical requirements on the medical questionnaire. Please note: If you answer ‘YES’ to any of the questions on the medical form, you will require a doctors permission to dive. If all of your answers are ‘NO’, please just come along – you will fill out a form when you get to the aquarium on the day of your dive. You must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.
Is it safe?
Our tank is a safe environment to dive in and our team are fully qualified PADI dive instructors.
Can I feed the sharks?
No, members of the public cannot feed our sharks. Our sharks are fed by our divers on Saturdays and Wednesdays.
Do I need to be able to swim?
No, you do not have to be a super swimmer to enjoy the Junior Shark Encounter experience since the maximum depth is only 2m/6 ft, but you do need to be confident in the water.
Can I fly after I dive?
PADI recommends that you wait 12 hours after your dive before you fly.
How do I get there?
Deep Sea World is located 20 minutes from Edinburgh over the Forth Road Bridge just off Junction 1 of the M90. There is free on-site parking. By public transport, there are regular train services from Edinburgh Waverley and Haymarket stations to North Queensferry on the Fife Circle Line. Our location is clearly signposted and just a short walk from North Queensferry station.
Am I in a cage?
No, you are not in a cage. You are on a secure platform surrounded by the fish and sharks, and accompanied at all times by our dive instructors.
When can I dive?
Our Junior Shark Encounters run during the school holidays, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 9am and 11am. During term time the sessions run on selected Saturday mornings at 9am. You must pre-book your dive by calling 01383 411880. Dive sessions are subject to availability.
How long does the course last?
The Junior Shark Encounter session is approximately 1.5 hours in length. This includes a safety briefing, training and a 20 – 25 minute dive.
What do I need to wear?
At Deep Sea World we dive in dry suits and SCUBA gear. Please bring a change of warm clothes with you on the day of your dive to wear under your dry suit. Tracksuit bottoms, long sleeved t-shirts and warm socks are perfect. Layering is the key to staying warm!
Can my family and friends watch me dive?
Yes, included in the price is one adult spectator. You can also have additional spectators at a reduced rate. Your spectators can watch your dive from the viewing tunnel.
Can I take a camera into the tank?
No sorry, you cannot take a camera into the tank.
