Visitor Services Presenter

Applications are now being taken for a part time Visitor Services Presenter.

The Visitor Services Team is the public facing side of the aquarium. It is our job to pass on information to the visitors through interactive presentations, and also though animal handling. We cover all aspects of the customer visit from parking cars, through to reception duties and birthday parties.

Applicants must be lively and enthusiastic, and willing to work hard in a busy dynamic environment. Ideally candidates will have excellent communications skills, exemplary timekeeping and attendance records, and be highly motivated. Customer Service skills are of high importance, as are the willingness and ability to learn a vast amount of marine knowledge.

Full training for this position will be given. Applicants must flexible with their availability for on site job training.

Minimum wage applies.

Temporary Retail Assistant

We have an opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join our retail team for the summer trading period.

Reporting to the Retail Manager the successful candidate will be responsible for maximising sales through:-

  • Providing a world class standard of customer service at all times
  • Ensuring the shop is fully replenished and stocked
  • Following stock control procedures to ensure merchandise is priced, labelled and displayed correctly
  • Ensuring all points of sale are merchandised to the store standards at all times
  • Keeping the shop floor and storerooms tidy and clean
  • Working as part of the Deep Sea World team

This role requires flexibility in working hours and will involve some weekend and public holiday working.

Catering Assistants

Aquarist / Diver

Deep Sea World is a market leader visitor attraction and Scotland’s National Aquarium based in North Queensferry.

Our Aquarium hosts the largest temperate marine display in the UK through its underwater walkthrough tunnel.

Other displays include tropical marine, freshwater, reptiles, amphibians and marine mammals.

The responsibility of the Aquarist/Diver will be varied and challenging, but extremely rewarding.  A hands on approach is required to ensure you achieve the highest standard of animal care and husbandry. You will be responsible for maintaining and developing all Deep Sea World’s displays and exhibits, along with promoting public education and awareness in relation to conservation of biodiversity.  In addition to this you will also maintain clean, tidy and safe standards of all plant rooms; tool rooms, laboratories and quarantine facilities. The successful candidate will be expected to be very personable and able to communicate well with the visitors as you will be responsible for promoting and participating in public presentations and education sessions, as well as conversing with our visitors whilst carrying out your daily duties around the aquarium.

The role requires you to take members of the public into our main tank (as part of our dive experience package), and to carry out shows and maintenance dives. It is desirable, but not essential, that you are qualified to PADI Divemaster or equivalent and hold an in-date dive medical.  Dive specific training can be undertaken if not already at this level.

This is a full time post working on a rota’d basis which includes regular weekends and bank holidays as well as being on call for out of hour’s emergencies.

Bristol Aquarium seeks Maintenance Manager

Located in the heart of Bristol’s Harbourside, Bristol Aquarium is one of the South-West’s premier animal attractions. This iconic aquarium is home to around 4000 individual animals in over 40 displays, all situated on two floors and throughout a glasshouse showcasing a raised walkway which winds through an extensive botanical collection.

Giant naturally-themed displays including open-top tanks and underwater walkthrough tunnels utilise the very latest in aquarium technology to provide perfect conditions for both marine and freshwater species as well as innovative viewing opportunities for hundreds of thousands of visitors.

An opportunity has arisen for you to become part of the successful management team operating this unique attraction as a Maintenance Manager.  Reporting to the General Manager you will ensure that the aquarium is presented to the highest standard, kept in good working order and is safe for staff and customers. The responsibilities of this position will be varied, challenging, but extremely rewarding.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • To control all health and safety standards within the department and ensure the attraction is safe for customers and staff particularly when maintenance work is being carried out.
  • To ensure all internal and external facilities are in good working order on a day to day basis and fulfil the requirements of the PPM schedule
  • To co-ordinate activities of contractors ensuring work is completed to schedule and within budget
  • To manage the maintenance budget and PPM schedule
  • To provide an emergency call-out service
  • To assist with the day-to-day management of the aquarium taking on duty management responsibilities on a rota’d basis.
  • To monitor utility usage and advise and implement ‘green’ solutions having a regard for conservation and the environment

In addition to this you will also maintain clean, tidy and safe standards in all plant and tool rooms.

The successful candidate will be expected to be very personable and able to communicate well with the visitors.

A qualification or a completed apprenticeship in both electrical and plumbing would be an advantage.  Experience within the leisure attraction/aquarium would also be advantageous but is not essential. Applicants must hold a full, valid UK drivers licence.

This is full time post working on a rota’d basis which includes regular weekends and bank holidays.

Blue Reef Aquarium seeks a Displays Supervisor – PORTSMOUTH

Blue Reef Aquarium, a leading visitor attraction in the South has an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to join the Zoological team as a Displays Supervisor.

Our Zoological department is responsible for all displays, including our 200,000 litre ocean tunnel exhibit, as well as a diverse collection of reptiles, amphibians, mammals and invertebrates.

Reporting to the General Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Zoological Team. The successful candidate must possess a degree in Marine Biology or similar subject. A hands-on approach is required to ensure the team achieves the highest standards of animal care and husbandry. You will also promote a high standard of health and safety for all aquarium visitors and staff. You will be responsible for the husbandry of all displays and maintenance of life support systems.  A proven ability to design, construct and maintain aquaria is a must and experience with PVC pipework, basic joinery and maintenance of life support equipment including pumps is also a must.

Other responsibilities will include providing veterinary care, display development and breeding programmes. With your strong communication and leadership skills, as well as a ‘lead by example’ management style you will motivate and inspire your team to present the Aquarium’s displays to an exceptional standard, whilst ensuring the continued development of exhibits to incorporate novel and innovative approaches.
